More than an hour before Ranjani-Gayatri ascended the stage, the chairs and ground-mats were almost full. Whenever I looked around there were people as far as the eye could see, a sea of rasikas sitting, standing, devouring the downpour from the skies. Felt so blessed to be one of them.

They began with the exquisite varnam in Hindolam by TM Thyagarajan on Maalmarugan. This was followed by Swati Tirunal’s Parvathi Naayaka. That perfect kalapramaanam for swarams in two speeds that fell so tightly and crisply. After this came the evergreen Naadatanum Anisham. Such gems, each one of these! Vairamum, Maanikyam thaane aagi.

The Nurani Experience – 10 July 2019

A sunny day. As the sun shines with all its might, some might want to rejoice in its radiance, while some might prefer that it dimmed down a little, because it’s too much to handle. Some might be out all day, but not even notice how beautiful and bright the sun was! But the sun never does listen to such whims or care about such perceptions, for its purpose is much greater, it knows not how to be lesser than it naturally is, it knows not to contain its brilliance. It’s no coincidence then, that Ranjani-Gayatri are the stars of Carnatic music.

Concert at Kapali – 22 March 2019

There’s something about listening to a Carnatic concert in a temple that just feels right. It fits right in – the music, in the atmosphere. The abode of Gods is where divine music should dwell, too. Naturally. And then there’s the experience of attending a CONCERT in a TEMPLE. Ranjani-Gayatri, at Kapaleeshwarar Temple. Now that’s where music thrives. It flourishes. It moves. It conquers.
